How to forecast produce yield and sales

Multiply the amount planted by expected harvest per row foot, bed foot, bed, plant, or acre. Then apply a marketable percentage for grading and loss, followed by a planning reserve before converting the remaining harvest into sale units and projected gross revenue.

Your own harvest records are the best benchmark

Crop, variety, spacing, soil, weather, pests, harvest stage, and management can all shift yield. Start with a conservative local guide when necessary, then replace it with your farm’s actual planted quantities and packed harvest totals.

Keep marketability and reserve separate

Marketability represents product that never becomes saleable. The reserve is saleable product you intentionally avoid promising, leaving room for forecast error, display stock, household use, or late losses. Keeping both visible makes preorder limits easier to explain and adjust.
