This calculator converts what you planted into what you can realistically sell. Enter rows, beds, plants, or acres and a yield per unit, then apply a marketable percentage and a planning reserve to get sellable inventory, sale units, and projected gross revenue. It is built for growers who presell through CSAs, preorders, and farm stands.
How to forecast produce yield and sales
Multiply the amount planted by expected harvest per row foot, bed foot, bed, plant, or acre. Then apply a marketable percentage for grading and loss, followed by a planning reserve before converting the remaining harvest into sale units and projected gross revenue.
Your own harvest records are the best benchmark
Crop, variety, spacing, soil, weather, pests, harvest stage, and management can all shift yield. Start with a conservative local guide when necessary, then replace it with your farm's actual planted quantities and packed harvest totals.
Keep marketability and reserve separate
Marketability represents product that never becomes saleable. The reserve is saleable product you intentionally avoid promising, leaving room for forecast error, display stock, household use, or late losses. Keeping both visible makes preorder limits easier to explain and adjust.
Worked example
Four 100-foot rows of tomatoes at 1.5 lb per row foot forecast 600 lb. At 80% marketable that is 480 lb; holding a 15% reserve leaves 408 lb to plan sales around. Sold in 2 lb units at $6, that is 204 units and about $1,224 in projected gross revenue.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find yield per row foot for my crop?
Your own harvest records are best. If you have none yet, university extension vegetable planning guides publish conservative per-row-foot or per-plant ranges by crop. Use the low end until you have your own data.
What marketable percentage should I use?
It depends on the crop and your grading. Sturdy crops like winter squash may be 90 percent or more; delicate crops like tomatoes, berries, and greens often lose 15 to 30 percent to grading, splits, and spoilage.
Why hold a reserve on top of the marketable percentage?
Marketability removes product that was never sellable. The reserve protects your promises against forecast error, weather, and display or household use. Preselling only the post-reserve amount keeps you from oversold refunds.
